WinterFest Weekend in
Los Alamos, New Mexico

WinterFest Weekend is a family-oriented holiday event that celebrates winter in Los Alamos, New Mexico. A number of businesses and organizations host events including the North Pole Workshop and Breakfast with Santa!

While WinterFest 2021 takes place Dec. 3-5, activities will be posted throughout the month of December - be sure to check out our "Other Activities & Ideas" section!

10 a.m.-4 p.m. Affordable Arts Show, Fuller Lodge Art Center

1 p.m.-7 p.m. 27th Annual Los Alamos Creche Show, Church of Jesus Christ of

Latter-Day Saints Chapel, 1967 18th St. Los Alamos

Come ring in the Christmas Season by viewing nativity displays from around the

world. All are welcome and admission is free!

6 p.m. Winter Wonderland Virtual Paint Party

Plan a cozy Family Paint Party at home to kick off your holiday festivities. 

Los Alamos Canvas Events has several winter themed painting kits from which to choose.

The projects are designed for all ages and all skill levels. 

Join the virtual Zoom event or purchase kits for your own party.

7 p.m. Ratcracker on "The Hill," Duane Smith Auditorium  

The long anticipated sequel to Nutcracker on "The Hill" is finally here! 

Join Oppenheimer, Gwen Groves, the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Dance Arts Los Alamos 

as they venture to escape the clutches of the Rat Queen. This is Part II in the trilogy!

Adults $20 and Students/Seniors $10 (Children 3 and under free).

8 a.m.-12 p.m. Kiwanis “Visit with Santa,”  Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall, 3700 Canyon Road, Los Alamos 

Thanks to the support of Del Norte Credit Union, there is no cost to visit with Santa, but families are asked to reserve a timeslot at https://losalamos.kiwanisone.org/santa. The Kiwanis Club will be collecting non-perishable food donations for LA Cares and accepting monetary donations for the programs and projects of their club. See’s Candy will also be available for purchase. For the safety and health of Santa and all visitors, this year’s Visit with Santa will look and feel differently than the pre-pandemic Breakfasts with Santa: families must register in advance, masks will be required indoors, food will not be served, guests will take their own photos of their children with Santa, Photos with Santa will be stage to keep children and Santa at a safe distance from each other (Santa will not hold children).

9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Annual Children’s Christmas Bazaar, Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr., Los Alamos

A child-only event where children kindergarten through 6th grade shop for family and friends from a selection of donated items. Elves are available for children who may need or want help, or gift wrap is sent home for gift wrapping. Parents are encouraged to enjoy coffee and treats in the parking lot while they wait for their children. Children are encouraged to bring a shopping bag, list of people to shop for, and parents are encouraged to bring a chair.

$15 suggested donation at the door, proceeds go to charity.

Join Los Alamos County Recreation Staff to decorate a cookie, make crafts, write a letter to Santa, cuddle with a 5-ft bear, and take a photo with Santa!

4 p.m. Holiday Concert: A Winter Day United Church of Los Alamos

A Winter Day will premiere “The End and The Beginning," a work by Katie Kring commissioned by the Chorale. The performance also features cellist Dana Winograd in works for piano and cello and in A Winter Day, a major work by Canadian composer Sarah Quartel. Songs of the holiday season round out the program.

Now Through Dec. 10

Hoodies 4 The Holidays. Del Norte Credit Union is hosting a winter clothing drive, seeking NEW hoodies/zip-ups and other items (beanies, gloves, wool socks, scarves) for all kids and all ages, that will benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters Mountain Region in Los Alamos County. Drop off at any Del Norte Credit Union branch.

Saturday, Dec. 11

11 a.m.-1 p.m. Jolly Jingle Bell Walk - 5K; Hosted by the Los Alamos Family YMCA, the most fun 5K predictive walk/race of the Holiday Season! Start at the LA Co-Op and then along Canyon Rim Trail. Registrants receive a Y Beanie and bells to attach to their shoes. There will be hot drinks provided by the Co-op, the Brave New Brass Quintet playing Christmas Carols and music along the trail. Prizes for the top 5 predictions. Bring the whole family! $25 first - $10 additional family participants. Solo Students $15. (Beanies will be ordered after the event & pick up will be at The Y).
