Los Alamos MainStreet is pleased to offer several programs to visitors and locals alike. From amenities like projectY coworking space, part of the Los Alamos Creative District, as well as cultural events like the Tuesdays at the Pond Summer Entertainment Series, to streetscape projects and farmers markets, Los Alamos MainStreet is working hard to enhance downtown Los Alamos.

projectY cowork Los Alamos, a collaborative coworking space located at 150 Central Park Square in Los Alamos, New Mexico, serves as a hub for startups, freelancers, remote workers, students, and others to be connected to like-minded entrepreneurs, business experts, investors and mentors who will help them achieve their personal and professional goals. The 2,400 square-foot open floor plan of projectY accommodates open seating (“hot desks”) and dedicated desks, a kitchen, semi-private cubicles, lounge areas and a conference room, and is intended to foster a dynamic, collaborative work environment that harnesses the collective energy of those working and sharing ideas in the space. Day passes, punchcards, and various membership options are available.

Los Alamos has the only Creative District in the state of New Mexico. The development of the Creative District serves as a catalyst for supporting and developing service, restaurant, retail, and hospitality businesses within the proposed district. Its focus is to improve the community’s capacity for economic benefit from visitation/tourism. Staple events include the Tuesdays at the Pond summer entertainment at Ashley Pond Park, as well as regular creative offerings such as cabaret shows and special events like the shadow-cast production of "Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Streetscape
Central Avenue Streetscape
Los Alamos has currently undergone two phases of the Streetscape Improvement Project, which implements the approved downtown plan goals of walkability and pedestrian friendliness. It unlocks the development potential of downtown by redeveloping existing streetscape and right-of-way space into a more aesthetically pleasing and economically viable use. This project, which is still ongoing, enhances pedestrian traffic and vitality in Downtown and offers a “sense of place” for the Creative and MainStreet Districts.
A $50,000 Capital Outlay grant received by New Mexico MainStreet for Phase II of the project, which was completed November 2016, went towards repainting existing light poles on Central Avenue for color consistency; replacing light fixtures with historically accurate energy-efficient LED fixtures; replacing deteriorated wood benches with the retro-style benches installed in Phase I of the project; and installing new trash and recycling receptacles, as well as bike racks. After the NM-502 and Central Avenue roundabout is constructed, the County and MainStreet will pursue a Phase III project on Central Avenue from 4th Street to 9th Street and also upgrade existing light poles on Knecht Street.
Los Alamos Farmers Market
The Los Alamos Farmers Market started in 1970 as a great place to support local foods and buy direct from growers and producers.
Outdoor Market Season runs Thursdays 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from May-October at Ashley Pond Park, and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. June-September at the Judicial Building parking lot.
For the Winter season, Markets are offered for advanced ordering and curbside pickup every Thursday in December and again January-April from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. in the parking lot across the street from Fuller Lodge. For CSA pickup, order from Squash Blossom the Sunday before pickup by 3 p.m., Monte Vista Tuesday by 3 p.m. and Khalsa Family Farms Monday by Noon.
Locals and visitors have access to farm-fresh produce, fruits, baked goods, cheeses, meats, cider, chiles, body products, nursery products, fresh tortillas hot off the grill, Mr. Tortas burritos, breakfast items from a number of bakers, fish, honey, and more.
