DAY OF ARTS AND CULTURE: Oct. 5, 2024

Celebrate Arts & Culture throughout October and join us for the kickoff with the Day of Arts & Culture
LAAC: Fall Arts & Crafts Fair
9 am - 3 pm, Central Park Square
The Los Alamos Arts Council will host 50+ artisans on October 5th for our annual fall craft fair. This event is free to the public and is always a fun way to kick off the holiday shopping season.

Mural Ribbon Cutting & Celebration
10:30-11:30 am, 157 Central Park Square (Walk Way)
Los Alamos MainStreet & Creative District will be celebrating the newly completed mural by artist Andrew Fearnside with dance performances, remarks, refreshments, and a ribbon cutting. Located in the alley between LA Cantina and Posada Dental in Central Park Square.

Full-Dome Photography Showcase
2 pm, Los Alamos Nature Center Planetarium
Step into the planetarium for a captivating photo showcase, where stunning images of landscapes and nature surround you in a 360-degree experience. This exhibit highlights the creative work of talented local photographers. $8/adult, $6/child. Register in advance at peecnature.org/events
After Hours at the Library: Music Lounge & Life Drawing
5 - 7 pm, Mesa Public Library
For the third year in a row, the library offers a special music-themed life drawing event in the lower rotunda at the Mesa Public Library after hours. All ages and abilities are welcome.

Los Alamos Youth Film Festival 
6 - 8 pm, SALA
Screening of films made by LAHS students through programming by the YMCA Los Alamos Teen Center, PAC8, and the Los Alamos Arts Council. Admission is free and open to all ages. 

An Evening of Stand-Up & Improv 
7 pm Doors, 7:30 pm Start, Performing Arts Center

Enjoy an evening of comedy and improv with Los Alamos' finest featuring Smoke & Crepes Improv and friends. $10/ticket, purchase at lalt.org or at the door.

Local artists Janet Montoya and Gloria Sharp will have a show in the Fuller Lodge Art Center Portal Gallery from October 4th-October 25th. The opening will be October 4th from 5-7 PM with light refreshments served.

Samizdat & LAAC Present: "The Sound of A Thousand Stars" Book Release

Author Rachel Robbins will be presenting her debut novel, "The Sound of a Thousand Stars." Published by Penguin Random House, the book is a fictional account of two Jewish physicists working on the Manhattan Project, and is inspired by the experiences of Robbins' grandparents.

"Exploring Caves through Interdisciplinary Science", Lecture with Dr. Ben Tobin

recently named the Director of The National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI) in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Dr. Benjamin Tobin will describe NCKRI and the role it plays through his lecture. This event is organized by the New Mexico Consortium's Your State of Science program.
